A Dutch zoo hopes to boost the reproduction odds of women kasidie parties orangutan by viewing if she will decide a chosen mate on a touchscreen before they have been unveiled.
In a four-year experiment it provides referred to as “Tinder for orangutans”, the Apenheul primate park in Apeldoorn will reveal Samboja, an 11-year-old woman, photos of conceivable business partners from a foreign wonderful ape breeding program.
The aim is to gain enhanced insight into how female orangutans make their mating options, Thomas Bionda, a behavioural biologist from the zoo, taught Dutch broadcaster NOS.
Because males orangutan could may just as far as Singapore, the zoo also intends to increase the likelihood of a fruitful experience.
“Often, animals must be taken on the zoo they originated without mating,” Mr Bionda said. “Things dont often go well once a male and a lady 1st fulfill.”

Your research is part of a wider programme going through the character of feelings in animals connections, the biologist claimed. “Emotion try of huge evolutionary significance. Should you don’t understand an emotion correctly in the open, it is typically the termination of one.”
Evy van Berlo, an evolutionary psychologist, advised local documents Tubantia that previous tablet examinations with bonobos – that, along with chimpanzees, would be the closest live relation to humans – received shown the two exhibited increased interest in images containing “positive stimuli”, such other bonobos mating or grooming each other.
The researchers’ main problem has-been creating a touchscreen difficult sufficient to resist Samboja’s attentions, Ms Van Berlo mentioned.
